NTU BRIDGE DESIGN COMPETITION 2015

Interview

We interview one of our student who attended the NTU BRIDGE DESIGN COMPETITION 2015

Coming from a Diploma called "Diploma in Engineering with Business". A bridge design competition would be the very last thing you would last expect to find us.
Our initial thought when we first signup for the competition was that we were TOTALLY out of out elements or comfort zone.
Firstly the competition was meant for universities but this year was the first year they welcomed polytechnics .A week before the competition all of us were strching our head on how to design the bridges. In total we had 7 teams representing NYP .Half of which were year 3 engineering students.Only a handful of us was from DEB.Our teacher in charge was Mr Leong a very funny yet very knowledgeable Senior Lecturer in NYP.My fellow team mate (since we worked in pairs) was Luke a Year 3 student in EEE. Despite our age gap we managed to understand and complete each other concepts and ides.

On the day of judging to our surprise our bridges were as competitive as those from the universities and other polytechnics. As we placed more and more weight on our structures and the atmosphere tensed up as the crowd quietens. And in a split second our bridge broke. Satisfied with the weight at which the bridge could withstood ,we waited patiently for the results. After all the excitement ,one of the team from NYP manage to got into the top 10 positions. We may not have won the top 3 but the exprience for us Year 1 DEB students at the same time learning the concepts of how bridges work further intrigue us in engineering !
It would be a understatement to say that we had a awesome time together !! ^^

Interview : " How do you feel about attending DEB as OGL in 2015?"

Being a person who barely comes out of my comfort zone being an ogl was a great experience for me. Considering the fact that it was my first time i had a pretty great class (EB1505). The main point of the orientation camp is for the freshies to have fun and start bonding between their classmates. So , despite the limits that we have , my group  of friends and i were able to try our best for the freshies to have fun during the camp. We even had the freshies bring extra shirt cos we wanted to play our own games. All in all  i definitely wouldn't be able to be a proper ogl without the help of my friends  from the deb and a great class i was facilitating.
